Yesterday’s devotional was about the way God enlightens our hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit and His Word, combined with the circumstances of life. For some reason, that was not posted. My excuse? We went out for an early dinner then watched a movie, played a crazy game, and I read the final chapters in an Agatha Christie book. It was late and tired. I’d written the devotional earlier and saved it, then posted it close to midnight — or thought I did. Instead, it was a repeat from the day before. I’ve no idea how that happened.
The gist of it is that we need God’s help for the human heart by itself is closed to spiritual truth — as closed as that missing devotional is to my retrieval. I even saved the duplicate with two dates on it instead of the one that I’d read and pondered yesterday.
I hope that those thoughts are in my heart. It was about reading and studying the Bible until my flesh mind was transformed to think more like Jesus. It was about the need to do that, otherwise I will govern my own life with my own thoughts instead of God’s thoughts. I also remember MacArthur’s suggestion for further reading. He said to read Genesis 27–33 and think about the way God used the events of Jacob’s life to transform his weak spiritual commitment to one that was strong and unconditional (see especially Gen. 28:20–22; 32:9–12).
This is encouragement. The Lord is able to plant in His people a power that can change our thoughts to His and I need that! Now for today . . .
